I was so thrilled the other day after having passed my Drone Pilot Certification Exam for Canada. But it was certainly not easy!

That's what made me decide I would create this study guide....

I also created an easy to use Study Guide Course for helping you become a Licensed Canadian Drone Pilot!

What is it exactly....?

It's an online exam for both Basic and Advanced Pilot certification that allows you to have open reference material.

  • There's a time limit

  • Wait 24 hours before you can write again

  • $10 fee

Some things you should know are that you'll receive immediate results! Not only that, you will be notified which sections you got wrong and need to review.

There are 4 principle documents to reference as your study guide during the exam.

1. New Canadian drone ("RPA") regulations:

2. Knowledge Requirements for drone pilots:

3. Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM):

4. Canadian Aviation Regulations (CAR):

The Transport Canada Drone Safety site contains more useful information: https://www.tc.gc.ca/en/services/avia...

Some of the fundamental rules are as follows:

  • Small Drones are 250g to 25 kilos

  • For Drones under 250g, the license requirement doesn't apply

  • The Drone must be registered and have the number clearly marked

  • You must be min 14 years old for the Basic License

  • With the Advanced License, you must only fly certified Drones (weird....)

  • No drugs or alcohol within 12 hours

  • Advanced License requires an in-flight review and renewals

  • FPV is permitted

  • Night flying permitted, spotlight required

  • Must maintain VLOS (Learn these terms)

  • Flying at Events and Parks is not allowed

You will be tested in the following subjects:

  • AIR LAW, AIR TRAFFIC RULES AND PROCEDURES

  • RPAS AIRFRAMES, POWER PLANTS, PROPULSION AND SYSTEMS

  • HUMAN FACTORS

  • METEOROLOGY

  • NAVIGATION

  • FLIGHT OPERATIONS

  • THEORY OF FLIGHT

  • RADIOTELEPHONY

I created an easy to use Study Guide Course for helping you become a Licensed Canadian Drone Pilot!
